Family Favorite Homemade Pizza Dough

Since we have pizza every Friday night at our house I’ve been playing with pizza dough recipes for awhile–and this one is our favorite so far! With pizza dough I’ve had the best luck doing half regular and half whole wheat flour. Want to try it with all whole wheat? Let me know how it goes!

Want to cut some of the carbs from your pizza? Skip the dough and make it on a tortilla instead! I like the Maya’s whole wheat tortillas which can be found at my local Winco. : )

  1. 2 packets active dry yeast (11/2 T.)
  2. 2 tablespoons honey
  3. 2 + 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  4. 2 teaspoons sea salt
  5. 3-4 cups all-purpose flour
  6. 3 cups whole wheat flour (or whole wheat pastry flour) + a bit extra, as needed
  7. 4 tablespoons olive oil
  8. Cornmeal for dusting pan
  1. Combine the yeast and warm water in the bowl of a stand mixer.
  2. Stir in honey and let sit for about 10 minutes or until foamy.
  3. Add salt, flour, and 2 T olive oil and mix the ingredients using a paddle attachment
  4. Once combined, switch to the dough hook attachment and add the remaining olive oil on low speed.
  5. Then mix at med-high speed for about 6-8 minutes, or until dough becomes a smooth ball
  6. Cover and let rise until double in size (about 30-60 minutes)
  7. Punch down and let rise again (about 15 minutes)
  8. Roll dough out to 1/4 in thickness and add desired toppings
  9. Bake at 425 for 8-12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and edges are crispy
  1. To refrigerate extra dough, stick in a bag and punch down occasionally as dough cools. Dough will keep for 2-3 days in the fridge.
  2. To freeze, place dough ball in freezer bag and place immediately in freezer.
  3. To thaw, place in the fridge the night before, then on the counter the day of use until no longer cold in the middle
  4. Let rise in an oven that has been preheated and turned off prior to rolling out and cooking
